Our reputation for clinical excellence coupled with our strong alliance with our sister hospital division provided the foundation for the development of Transitional Care Units (TCUs) within our centers. As hospitals primarily become institutions of diagnostic intervention and surgical procedures, patients are discharged elsewhere for their treatment, recovery and rehabilitation needs. Our TCUs provide the ideal atmosphere for patients to make the transition from the hospital back to the community. The typical unit consists of 12 to 36 beds and offers skilled nursing services and physical, occupational and speech therapy to patients recovering from conditions such as joint replacement surgery, and cardiac and respiratory ailments following their acute hospital stay. The units are staffed appropriately to deal with higher acuity residents. In addition, every room has a television, telephone, electric bed and pleasing decor. Many of the TCUs have a separate entrance and offer private rooms.
